Julie Wray with Contraception Board GameJulie Wray recently appointed by the University of Salford as non-executive Director of Contraception Education Limited, has practised across a range of health care settings in England and USA. For 16 years Julie worked as a midwife working closely with young people in the community. From 1995-98 Julie worked on a Department of Heath funded initiative with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists RCOG around quality, guidelines and audit in women’s health care. She has undertaken a number of regional and multi-centred audits in maternity care and commissioned work for the Royal College of Midwives. She is co-author of Midwifery Practice in the Postnatal Period - Recommendations for practice Royal College of Midwives published in 2000 (ISBN 1 870 822 04 8).

Julie moved into higher education in 1999 firstly as a Research Fellow developing multi-professional evidence based practice with 8 NHS Trusts in the North West of England, then in nurse education in 2001. Julie evaluated Sure Start Plus with a colleague in Manchester and Salford from 2003-2005. She now teaches about teenage pregnancy, sexual health and public health to pre-registration and post-graduate students while remaining research active.

Julie is a committee member of NICE, a trustee of Brook Manchester, and has been Chair for the last 5 years. Brook is an organisation working to promote access to teenage pregnancy and sexual gealth services, specifically for young people.
