PPASA is the largest and oldest South African NGO providing information, education and  sexual and reproductive health services. PPASA activities
The organisation's three main areas of focus are: 

  • Adolescent Reproductive Health Services (ARHS), 

  • Community-Based Reproductive Health Services (including distribution of contraceptives and reproductive health information), and 

  • Life Skills Education and Training projects. The Life Skills project includes the 'Men as Partners Project', the 'Parent Education Programme', the 'Women's Wellness Project' and the 'Sexual and Reproductive Health Life Skills Project' (SRHL).

Duduza Home, Project Gateway - a church-based, non-profit organisation, located in KwaZulu-Natal.  Against abortion, offers alternatives to abortion.   They aim to equip and empower local people through their Enterprise, Education and Care activities. They also have a Community Care Project which focuses on caring for, assisting and equipping those affected by HIV/AIDS, especially children and care-givers.

 - a Christian foster-care village for orphaned babies and toddlers with HIV/AIDS - located in KwaZulu-Natal some 20 km from Port Shepstone.  Rehoboth is a Christian Interdenominational Charity.

Reproductive Health Research Unit

The RHRU coordinates research and clinical training courses around HIV/AIDS and reproductive Sexual Health.  The unit has trained more than 400 doctors and health professionals from 20 countries in the region. It also coordinates a regional research network with the support of the Afro WHO office and WHO headquarters, and serves as well as co-producing the African Journal of Reproductive Health with  partners in Nigeria.

 

SIVAZASAMA PROJECT

The project shows how the power of design can help bring social change. As the expert rural craftswomen apply their skills they discuss HIV/AIDS with their children, peers and partners, sharing vital knowledge and raising awareness about the disease, its causes and its consequences. The project provides a fascinating model for the ways in which design might be used as part of HIV/AIDS awareness programmes.

Thandanani Association
http://www.thandanani.org.za - a non-governmental organisation working in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Thandanani's mission is to motivate for the care and assistance of children in distress in the greater Pietermaritzburg / Msunduzi area by working with the community, child care professionals and state authorities.  The mission is to build the capacity of the Msunduzi (Pietermaritzburg) and Richmond communities to respond to the basic material, physical, cognitive and emotional needs of their orphans and vulnerable children
